Useful expressions
- Esta é a minha mulher.
- “This is my wife.” Use esta with a feminine person or noun.
- Este é o meu filho.
- “This is my son.” Use este with a masculine person or noun.
- Quem são vocês?
- “Who are you?” when speaking to more than one person.
- De que país é que vocês vêm?
- “What country do you come from?”
- Vimos da Alemanha.
- “We come from Germany.”
Family words agree with gender.
Portuguese uses o meu before masculine family words such as marido and filho, and a minha before feminine words such as mulher and filha.
